I create my work for the purpose of challenging people’s perceptions of the world they’re in. To acknowledge and consider what the past has to offer. By using subjects such as corruption, mouths, manipulation, and people, I can convey these ideas. Going forward, I plan to dive deeper into projection by manipulating space and materials and changing the perception of a space. I aspire to learn more about different types of media and how I can improve upon the media I already use.
To begin my creative process, I decide on the concept that I want to explore. My concepts come from anywhere and everywhere that I look. Whether that be in the old art magazines that I sift through every day or something that I may see on social media; everything can be an inspiration for something. After the concept is determined, I ask myself how I could utilize a 3D space for the piece. I feel the need to use projection because of how it transforms a space. I’ve learned that changing a space’s perspective may also change the viewers perspective.
My work gradually stemmed from various video games that involved many special effects - such as glitching. Studying the concept of mouths and teeth has also led me down an unexpected path of experimentation. Experimentation is an important part of my process because it allows me to learn and explore. I know my work is finished when I am proud to display it for my peers. My work will speak for itself. I want the viewers to ask themselves how I did it and to see my work as an experience rather than a depiction.
